The 4 Psychological Functions of the Fully Functioning Person

Maybe he just reads too much! My younger brother Nicholas, that is.

Once again he was reading one of dad’s books and now he can’t stop talking about what it takes for any of us to become a fully functioning person.

Nicholas suggests that this then brings us to an obvious question, which is “What psychological functions would we need to recognize, accept, develop, be in balance?” He suggests that there are four psychological functions that each of us uses in order to survive. I will do my best to explain what he says.

Attention Deficit Disorder/Intention Deficit Disorder, Half Promise/Half Prayer

He is at it again! My younger brother Nicholas, that is.

He obviously has ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).

He can hardly sit still and his mind is constantly racing, so much input for one child’s brain. Anyways, he has been reading up on ADD in order to find out what the experts say about it.

As always, his version of what’s going on seems to be different than what most people say.

Two Dimensional YOU!

He’s at it again. My younger brother Nicholas has the strangest ideas. The problem is that they sometimes make so much sense to me. The precocious boy read dad’s college-level developmental psychology textbook over school break and now he thinks we have it only half right and are omitting a really important part that’s needed for our healthy development. So here’s how it goes (or rather here’s how I understand his ramblings/insights.) “We simultaneously live on two levels,” he screams. This is what’s normal for our species. We need to know this if we are ever to understand what’s going on and our place in it.
