Success Over Sixty
What does Success Over Sixty look like? More importantly, how would you describe Success Over Sixty: Financially stable, working at a fulfilling profession, 100% retired, travelling? Most importantly, what would Success Over Sixty feel like for you? Joyful, peaceful, exciting? As part of a newly formed group of fabulous women over sixty, I was surprised and impressed with their answers.
These are women who have incredibly impressive lives (physicians, lawyers, teachers, parents), but who were not all prepared for creating the next chapter in their lives. Therefore, were concerned about how moving forward
We follow a process I participated in many years ago. The process developed by Betsy Damon (Keeper of the Waters) is No Limits for Women Artists. It was one of the most powerful groups I have ever participated in. Over the years, in many life areas, I’ve engaged in the process; both individually and in group work. In addition to being a powerful process for me, it strengthen my confidence and many of my relationships.
Each participant is asked four questions (which I have modified slightly). The questions are:
- What is the greatest vision for this next phase of your life (be bold)?
- What is a step to take in that direction? Small steps are excellent?
- What might get in your way?
- How can you get support? How can others in the group support you?
Additionally, leadership rotates. This is important aspect of the group for many reasons:
- it allows and encourages each woman to step into a position of power (in a positive way)
- it acknowledges the unique support skills in the group
- for those used to always having to lead, it provides a space to be nurtured, even vulnerable
- it creates friendships instead of boundaries (the leader versus the others)
