Until Now. These may be two of the most powerful words for motivating change in your life.
What do you feel discouraged about in your life right now? If nothing, great.
But if there is something that feels habitual and you want to change your relationship with it, all you may have to do is change your thoughts about it.
That might not seem easy, but in reality it is. How?
Remember that the lotus flower often emerges from muddy waters. Acknowledge and accept the muddy waters in your life. Understand that something beautiful can break through that acceptance.
It may seem that you’ve been stuck in the mud for a very long time…Until Now. How?
What area of your life, or habit, feels like it has you stuck in mud? Name it. With naming and acknowledgement comes power.
Step 1: Write how it has felt to try over and over to change in it without success, and then write Until Now. Some examples:
- I am always broke…Until Now
- I can’t seem to find a healthy relationship…Until Now.
- I am always stuck in dead end work…Until Now
- I have been unsuccessful in weight loss and exercise…Until Now.
- My addictions keep me stuck…Until Now.
Step 2: Now it’s time to create a new story about this. Some examples:
- Until Now I didn’t appreciate the things I do have in my life. As I appreciate them moving forward more of what I want will show up.
- Until Now I believed I didn’t deserve a healthy relationship. Now I will pay attention to spending more time with people who support me in a positive way, and will move away from those that feel negative or toxic.
- Until Now I thought I had to stay in the job I hate. Now I know I can start to branch out and look for other work. It may be risky but it may also be wonderful.
- Until now I predicated I would not success in weight loss or exercising on a regular basis. Now I know I just want to start of slowly and appreciate small successes in better health.
- Until now I believed my addictions defined me. Now I know I can ask for help and support to define myself in new ways. I will write out 5 qualities associated with my best self.
Step 3: Find ways to keep you attention of your new happier story. Post pictures that remind you of:
- Abundance
- Healthy Relationships
- A Career or Path that makes you smile
- The Healthiest you possible
- Your identity that is free of the label ‘addict’
Step 4: Get support. The #1 reason we are able to move in the direction in life we want is because we have the support of those people who want the best for us (and for themselves).
You have not lived the life you truly want…Until Now.
