You are riding the Golden Roller Coaster of Life.
How is that going for you?
Are you spending most of your ride in fear, eyes shut?
Or are you present with whatever is happening, even fear and the wildness of the experience?
Closing your eyes to the present moment doesn’t take away what is real in this moment – not the happy moments or the ones that we struggle to avoid. Struggling to avoid sadness, anger or fear only pushes those feeling down, eventually coming to the surface with more force than their original energy.
Are you able to breath into the fears and the joys this roller coaster ride brings you?
Many years ago, Alan Watts wrote The Wisdom of Uncertainty. He encourages us to appreciate the uncertainty of life, to enjoy the ride. Don’t look back, keep focused on what is happening right now. You may be going uphill, anticipating the next unexpected curve or swift downward spiral. No matter, be with it. It is most definitely with you. Breathe through the anticipation of uncertainty, breathe with the moment.
From the wisdom of Alan Watts:
Being in present in this moment seems like a simple thing to accomplish. Yet most of us spend our days, our minutes, our lives wishing we were someone else, someplace else, someXXX else. How would it feel to appreciate this moment? To appreciate who you are? What you have (friends, work, a home, sunshine, food, delight)?
I invite you to stop what you are doing, take a nice deep breath and simply notice where you are right now? Notice how your body feels on your chair or ground? Simply notice the weather (without judgment of comment). Be in this moment as fully as possible – whether it a moment of sadness, peace, satisfaction, pain…
For this moment is truly all there is. Be present with it – eyes wide open.
