Life Coaching, ListeningYou are receiving guidance and messages from within; whether you call it intuition, a gut feeling, your wisest self, your inner superhero, or internal life coach.  You can use this guidance to be your own best life coach.  First you have to set your listening style to clear and attentive.  How? Understand your three distinct ways of listening (to yourself and others).  The style you are engaged in will determine how well you’ll hear your internal life coach.  The three listening styles include:

            • Distracted Listening
            • Focused Listening
            • Clear Listening

How do you want to be listened to?

  • Distracted: the other person or your internal life coach thinking of whats for dinner instead of what you are asking/saying.
  • Focused: the other person or your internal life coach is being attentive but over-thinking what you are asking/saying.  Is more interested in coming up with advise, not really being present to your needs.
  • Clear: the other person or your internal life coach is 100% present to your needs.  Understands that you know best what will move you closer to your life dreams and goals.  Answers will organically bubble up to the surface and you will be open to receiving this wise guidance.

A trained, skilled life coach has perfected the art of Clear Listening.  You can too.  It is where your inner superhero, your internal life coach, is hanging out.  The most powerful way to engage in Clear Listening is to be in Present Moment Awareness (PMA).  One way to get into PMA is through contemplative practice (mindfulness, journaling, making art, walks in nature) when you shut off the executive functions of your frontal lobe, and allow your temporal lobe to be its creative, intuitive self.  The more you practice being in PMA, the more you’ll know when your internal life coach is helping you out.
